Hi! I’m Ray.
I’m a queer, disabled, transdisciplinary artist with an MFA in Sound Design from Carnegie Mellon University. My thesis focused on a theoretical concept I call “the sound body”—a dynamic ecology of systems which participate in both the generation and perception of sound in a performance context. My work is rooted in acoustic exploration, embodiment research, trauma-informed practice, and my lived experience of disability.
My connection to the unseen world has changed my life more than once. To me, sound is the ultimate bridge to invisible realms of existence. Sound design and composition are an act of devotion, enriching human relationship to that which is just beyond conscious perception or awareness.
I’ve spent many years as a director, designer, crew member, producer, and performer. My work across many roles in theaters of all shapes and sizes has given me storytelling experience from many technical and dramaturgical perspectives, from children’s theater to professional regional companies.
